With the UK weather conditions becoming increasingly unpredictable, installing FloPlast’s Tile/Snow Guard and Bracket ensures the property is protected, as well as preventing unnecessary injury from falling tiles, snow and debris.

Extreme weather conditions – Snow loading

FloPlast’s Rainwater Systems are manufactured tested and accredited to the BS EN 12200, BS EN 607 and BS EN 1462 the relevant British Standards for rainwater systems within the UK. As a part of our Kitemark accreditation FloPlast’s fascia brackets are tested by British Standards in accordance with BS EN 1462, Clause 6.2 “Load bearing Capacity” and continue to meet the requirements of this clause.

Fact: The loading requirement of the British Standard is that brackets should be able to hold 75Kg of weight atthe designated design centres, i.e. one metre apart (or whatever the distance is determined in our literature, different systems, different centres).

Fact:One square metre of snow, 300mm (12”) deep, weighs in the region of 96Kg. Average semi-detachedhouse @ 30m2x 96kg = 2.8 tonnes of snow.

Fact: Rain following snow escalates the situation, as the snow is like a large sponge, soaking up the rain.

Snow slippage is particularly evident where smooth roofing materials such as slate have been installed. For additional security FloPlaststrongly recommend the installation of Snow Guard which facilitates the retention of snow, allowing slow melt, rather than slippage. In areas where there is the possibility of high levels of snowfall, fascia brackets should be spaced at a maximum of 400mm centres.

Several factors can come into play with the performance of rainwater systems, installation, overhang and styleof the roof system (tiles/slates), pitch of roof, North or South facing, above or below 100 metres above sea level.
