Are FloPlast white cladding products suitable for use in swimming pools?

Yes, contact with water from swimming pools is not detrimental to PVC.

Are woodgrain laminated products guaranteed for external use?

Yes, they are guaranteed for 10 years.

Can Hollow Soffit be used as cladding?

Hollow soffit cannot be used as cladding (externally) as it is not water tight however it can be used internally.

Can laminate boards be installed underwater and will this affect the guarantee?

Yes, you can install cellular products in water and the foiling will not peel off.

However it must not be used if there is chemicals in the water e.g swimming pools.

There will not be a guarantee against discolouration as it could affect the products colour match if installed part below and part under the water line.

Can lights be fitted into Hollow Soffit if installed internally?

Yes, lights can be fitted as long as they are mains fed and not through a transformer.

Can you paint FloPlast cellular products?

If you do need to paint the product then the system should be cleaned using a degreasing agent such as sugar soap.

Once cleaned two coats of a good quality gloss (Solvent Based) paint should be applied.

Avoid scouring or roughing the surface of the plastic as this will affect the final appearance of the painted product.

Has hollow soffit got a Class 1 Fire Rating?

Yes, hollow soffit was tested by the BBA to BS476-7 and delivered a rating of Class IY.

How do I connect Corners, Joints and Trims to fascia and soffit?

FloPlast recommend that the use of Low Modulus Neutral Cure(LMN) Silicone or a proprietary adhesive such as super glue to fix corners, joints and trims.

How many types of fascia board do FloPlast supply?

FloPlast Supply seven different types of fascia boards available in a variety of sizes and colours. The different types of Fascia Boards are:

  • Universal (9mm thick, capping/refurbishment board)
  • Square Edge Universal (9mm thick, capping/refurbishment board)
  • Ogee Fascia (10mm capping/refurbishment board)
  • Mammoth  (18mm full replacement board)

How much air flow do I need to allow into the roof space?

If the roof space is not occupied then you need to allow 10mm of airflow.

If the roof space is occupied or the pitch is less than 15° then you need to allow 25mm of airflow.

Is the cellular range compatible with other manufactures products?

No, they are not compatible with any other makes of cellular ranges.

The Building Regulations require ventilation of the roof area in certain circumstances, what products are available to comply with these regulations?

What air gap is required when installing cladding?

We recommend an air gap of 25mm, however NHBC requirements are for a 38mm air gap.

What are the different fascia boards used for?

The 9mm/10mm Capping boards are used as a cover board to go over existing timber backing which must be in good condition.

The 16mm/18mm full replacement boards are used for fully replacing any old fascia or on a new build and can fix straight onto the rafters.

What colours do FloPlast offer and what are the RAL codes

What distance should the disc soffit ventilators be installed at?

The disc soffit ventilators should be installed at every 250mm to comply with the ventilation requirements of a 10mm air gap.

What expansion gaps are required when installing FloPlast products?

When installing white coloured products an expansion gap of 5mm per 5 metre length is required (i.e. when butting two boards, a 10mm gap should be left).

Woodgrain products have a greater linear expansion and a gap of 5mm to 8mm per 5 metre length is required.

What guarantee is offered on the cellular range?

The guarantee is 20 years against discolouration & manufacturing faults against all white products in the range and 10 years for the foiled ranges.

What is the fire resistance for the cellular products?

Certificate Number 3771 – when tested in accordance with BS 476-7 the multi-purpose board achieved a Class 2Y surface spread of flame rating; all other boards are expected to be similar, except the hollow soffit which achieved a Class 1Y rating.

Certificate Number 3772 – the system achieved a reaction to fire classification of D – s3, d2/(AHM) to BS EN 13501- 1

What is the pitch of a roof?

The pitch is the angle between the soffit board and the rafters.

What is the recommended spacing for pins and nails?

Pins and nails need to be installed every 600mm to the rafters. Two pins are required for soffit that is 200mm or wider.

Anything less that 200mm does not require pins.  For fascia board it is always two pins, every 600mm

9mm/10mm fascia board – 50mm Nails
16mm/18mm fascia board – 65mm Nails
10mm soffit board – 40mm Pins
10mm hollow soffit board – 30mm Clad Pins

What size is cladding available in?

FloPlast cladding is available in two sizes and profiles. 150mm Shiplap, and 100mm V Joint.
